• sjmachin had christmas dinner here around 1990 we think with kids John 10 Robert 8 we had wildflowers on the table candles tiny bits of christmas cake de-hi turkey met everyone else leaving some Swiss thought the weather was turning bad we were left all alone it was wonderful beautiful and sunny we went on to the broderick avalanches down across the river all the way was very hard going smashed up trees on the other river bank must have been a very hard winter there was still heaps of snow made it to the broderick hut a field of mt cook lilies (ranuncula) i went up the pass must have been 27th deep snow at the top overhangs and cornices this was the best tramp of my life 2 ozzies died on mt cook the same day i stayed away from the edge deep snow in summer just didn't seem quite right guess i was just lucky
