Rankin Hut
Rankin Hut (private, 6 bunks. mattresses, wood-burning cooking stove, firewood available, stream water) is a station hut on the flats of the Godley River valley. The hut is owned by Godley Station and per them as of 3/1/19, the hut is "Flattened". Possibly no longer existing.
A public DOC hut is available 9km upstream (Eade Memorial Hut) and the Red Stag Lodge opposite is NZDA. Huts downstream are all private Godley Station huts (Angus Hut, Ribbonwood Hut).
The hut makes a good base to head up the Rankin Stream to see the glacier and lake at its head, and to pass over into the Cass via Rankin Pass. This pass provides spectacular views of the Huxley Glacier to the west.
Crossing the Godley at this point is possible in low-moderate flows: the river is braided and surface water may disappear completely in dry perio
