Mount Rintoul Hut
Mount Richmond Forest Park
Rintoul Hut / Mount Rintoul Hut (6 beds, matresses, stove, tank water) lies on the Alpine Route, 100m below the bushline on the main ridge of the Richmond Ranges, as it heads west from Mt Rintoul towards Purple Top. The hut has good views over Nelson and the lower Waiiti valley.
The hut offers a good break point for the night after the steep descent from Mt Rintoul (not to mention the two steep ascents to get there in the first place) for those travelling the Richmond main ridge, or the Richmond Alpine routes west. The hut also makes a popular overnight trip from the Lee River south of Nelson - which can be cycled from the roadend to 2km before Bishops Cap.
