Nice day walk in the Waitaks. Wide, easy to follow track. Mainly clay base so it can get muddy and slippery after rain. Track traverses the large ARA water catchment area and follows a broad ridge.

At the moment they are trying to drain it so it can get quite muddy in sections, especially after rain. Once you reach Anawhata Rd end it is a nice idea to cross over the road and tramp 10 minutes up the hill to a lookout which is a good place for lunch with great views over to Piha and the surrounding area. Lots of vocal tuis and fantails along the way to keep you company.
