Field Hut

Tararua Forest Park

Built in 1924, there are still signs of the original bush carpentry. Handy for Friday-nighters doing the Southern Crossing over the weekend. The danger sign in front of the hut refers to the track out from the Penn Creek Hut to Otaki (which may be accessed from Table Top, just above the hut). The track crosses several unstable slip faces.

The oldest surviving tramping hut in the Tararua Ranges, this hus was build by the Tararua Tramping Club, which maintain it to this day.
