Good challenging walk, great mix of scenery, terrain. I walked this anti-clockwise from North Egmont, stopping at Waiaua Gorge Hut & Waigongoro Hut. I took the High Route on Gorge Hut to Lake Dive, but otherwise the low route due to the weather, with wind and low cloud. Certainly plenty of up and downs between the many volcanic gorges on the low route. Quiet, outside North Egmont & Dawson Falls saw only 9 people. Huts well situated with super views. | |

Awesome, challenging track - need good fitness level as at least 3 hard days of walking. Take upper AMC track if weather allows as much easier to climb up, around & back down than slog through forest & muddy ravines. Times (fast): N Egmont - Holly Hut 2:45, Holly - Waiaua Gorge via Kahui 6:50, Waiaua - Lake Dive via Brames Track 4:45, Lake Dive to N Egmont via Upper 5:40 | |

Anticlockwise from North Egmont, including the Pouakai Tops. 5 hrs from N. Egmont - Pouakai Hut (via Henry Peak). 1:40 hrs Pouakai Hut - Holly hut. 7:45 hrs Holly Hut - Waiaua Gorge hut. 6 hrs from Waiaua - Lake Dive via high route. 2.5 hrs from Lake Dive - Dawson Falls. 2.5 hrs from DF - Maketawa hut. 50 min to N. Egmont. | |
