Cut in from the Galaisnock at Thomson Hut. Track from there to George Sound quite well marked but not cut for a while. | |

Walked from George sound to Lake Hankinson. Track is hard. Tent is essential as it is almost impossible to reach Lake Thompson hut in 1 day. I camped somwhere near Catharine Creek. Track condition was extremely bad, massive treefalls all over the way, no marks on Alpine parts of the track, however DoC claimed that they made a works there 3 weeks after my trip. However views are extremely cool, I saw Kea flying, blue duck and Weka on the way :) | |

Hut seems to look a bit more worse for wear than when I was there in 2013 — or maybe I was just relieved to see it. George Sound route is a great trip though I'm not sure it is quite as fearsome as the reputation it seems to have! | |
