Alert Predator control for Waitutu Forest

We plan to distribute non-toxic cereal bait pellets by helicopter from 3 May 2024, depending on the weather.

Waitutu Forest will remain open. You are advised not to walk on the tracks on the day of the operation. See the Pesticide Summary Map for the operation area.

  • Lillburn Valley Road (access to Lake Hauroko carpark, Lake Hauroko Lookout Track, Lake Hauroko Loop Bush Track, Lake Hauroko to Teal Bay Route) will be closed for two days for this operation.
  • Thicketburn Campsite and Picnic Area will be closed for two days for this operation.

Traffic Management and signage will be in place for road closures. People planning to enter this area on or after 15 April are advised to check this alert or the Te Anau Visitor Center first for possible delays.

DOC will distribute toxic bait containing 1080 within a month of applying the non-toxic bait.

This operation is part of DOC's National Predator Control Programme to protect native species.
