Predator control for Northern Ruahine
We plan to distribute non-toxic cereal bait pellets by helicopter between 21 September and 15 October 2023, depending on the weather.
The Northern Ruahine area will remain open. You are advised not to walk tracks on the days of the operation.
Huts that collect drinking water from the roof will have the water tanks disconnected until the roof and guttering is cleared of any baits after the operation is completed. Water in the tank is safe to drink.
Huts where the river is the drinking source, will have a supply of bottled water available.
DOC will distribute toxic bait containing 1080 within a month of applying the non-toxic bait.
This operation is part of DOC's National Predator Control Programme to protect native species.First published on 31 August 2023. Last reviewed on 21 September 2023.
