An aerial and ground goat control operation is planned for the Remutaka Forest Park. The operation will take place between 12 - 23 June 2023. There are two seperate operation areas:

• Operation area 1 map (JPG, 325K)
• Operation area 2 map (JPG, 301K)

Visitors to the areas should stay on marked tracks at all times. Contractors will have a 200 m buffer from marked tracks. 

A section of the Ōrongorongo Track at Jacob’s Ladder has been rerouted due to the risk of an imminent collapse. The slip cannot be seen from the track.

The reroute is well signposted. Turn back if you find yourself on a section of rough, uneven track with deep cracks.

The rerouted track is a temporary tramping track with some large, unformed steps. It will be upgraded soon.

Jacob’s Ladder is the area where the track descends steeply down to the Ōrongorongo River Valley. This is about five minutes before the curved bridge when travelling from the Catchpool carpark end.
