Arthur's Pass National Park
I heard this bird before I saw it, on the scree just above the Con's Track bushline on Mount Cassidy, New Year's Day 2010.

matthew Alternatively, yours could have been a pipit. Pipits have long tails.

aardvark It seems the little guys are the loudest and most vocal. I photographed a little guy on the Kelly Range at about 1300m last November. I'll look back at the shots to see if he's the same. On the descent i tried for more shots of others who were small and loud but the camera battery went dead.
