This route winds through coastal ranges north of Kaikoura. The track starts and ends at campsites, although there is 7km of road between track ends. The track is commonly used by mountain bikers and by hunters on 4X4 bikes.

From Okiwi Bay, the track climbs easily with a branch leading to the summit of Patutu (1162m). The track crosses several streams and passes around the northwestern slopes of Jacobs Ladder. It crosses Ohau Stream and meanders down to Half Moon Bay, passing a side-track to Seaward Valley Road.
