    A man called Joe

The Joe River;I haven`t been there, yet,it`s on the list but I`d like to know how this largely unheard-of river got its name. There`s a few sound-likes,but this particular one has its headwaters in the Olivine Plateau & flows into the mighty Arawhata River. The indupitable Arawhata Bill, back a year or three, used to traverse this area in thigh waders, armed with a shovel & in the company of his packhorse,Dolly.Still on the hill into his seventies, this man & others, prospected, hunted & explored throughout this area & I just want to have a look & soak up some of the history.Starting with a name.Anyone help?
