From the car park, an 800m stop bank plod leads to the foot of the knob. Good views over the broad Waiho / Tatare River flats, and a lot of pigeons in the trees. Once at the knob, an easy track spirals up through rich forest past two viewpoints.
Canavan's Knob is a sickle-shaped roche moutonée carved when the Franz Josef Glacier extended much farther out to the coast.
