Riverside park on the lower Ashley River.

The new Ashley Rakahuri Regional Park includes the Ashley Riverbed, stopbanks and estuary. The park is Managed by Environment Canterbury.  This park was established as a result of a Ngāi Tahu settlement with the Crown. It is a recreational reserve managed by a local trust. The land is largely pine forest, but includes the large Tūtaepatu Lagoon, and is undergoing extensive revegetation work.

How to get there

Access the park from River Road, Cones Road, or East Belt, Rangiora.

The basics

  • Entrance fee: no fees.
  • Pets: pets are permitted.
  • Vehicles: prohibited from riverbed August - February to protect nesting birds. Prohibited from estuary.
  • Overnight camping is prohibited.
