Lonely Lake and surrounds January 2013

JH & I ventured up to NW Nelson for a couple of tramping trips in January. A friend from Forest Service days and her husband also managed to fit in a bit of tramping with us. We were grateful to be able to share their bach near Takaka and be ferried around a bit.
During our roaming one of the more impressive sights in my opinion was this Douglas Range vista of Lonely Lake and the surrounding country. [We day tripped to Lonely Lake and back from Fenella hut] My photography with a cheapy digital camera doesn't do the scene justice. We met photographer & blogger Tom Akass at Fenella hut and spent some of the the time travelling to & from Lonely Lake with him. His blog of Feb 03 2013 contains some top photos of this area. A link follows http://tomakass.com/2013/02/03/the-dragons-teeth/
There are some neat descriptive names in this area. e.g. Dragons Teeth, The Needle and Drunken Sailors. John & I have already decided we're going to head back & spend more time in NW Nelson.
