The Far North is a wild land, with few people around — not counting the crowds climbing on and off buses at the Cape Reinga Lighthouse. Find a deeper connection by spending a few days exploring the coastline, the cliffs, the dunes, and the isolated campsites on the Te Paki Coastal Walk.
Arrange end-to-end transport through the Waitiki Landing Holiday Park.
The track starts at the eastern end of Piwhane / Spirits Bay, at the Kapowairua Campsite. Follow the beautiful peach-tinted beach to Whangākea / Pandora, the campsite at the western end of the beach.
From here, the track leads inland, away from sea cliffs, before dropping out at Tapotupotu Bay and the next campsite. Continue on to Te Rerenga Wairua / Cape Reinga and its famous lighthouse.
West of the cape, the track follows Te Werahi Beach to Cape Maria Van Diemen, and on to Paengarēhia / Twilight Beach, where there is a camp.
Over Tiriparepa / Scott Point, the track leads onto Te Oneroa-a-Tōhē / Ninety Mile Beach. Turn off up Te Paki Stream through a field of massive coastal dunes to the road.
