Kea hut Nov 2012

Kea hut Nov 2012

An older but lovingly restored hut in the Mt Robert area of Nelson Lakes National Park. This hut is only a couple of hundred meters from Bushline hut and can be seen from Paddys track which goes close by it.

Going by signage on the hut it once belonged to the Nelson Ski Club but is now administered by the Mt Robert Snow Sports Trust. Robbie Burton and friends were responsible for the restoration.

I'd previously heard about the hut & thought it was open to the public but there was a lock on the door when we visited. Usage must be by arrangement with the Mt Robert Snow Sports Trust!

  • glennj glennj Yes the skifield site was further along. Approx 2 km SW of Kea hut in the 2nd basin. A collection of buildings are still there.

  • Ancient Tramper Always hoped to check out the Mt Robert skiing, but they upped stakes and merged with Rainbow some years ago. The old hut looks well preserved. Was the skifield site further along the ridge?
