Stodys Hut: a great ex-musterer's hut above Timaru Creek - now rejuvenated by being on a re-routed section of the Te Araroa trail. The hut sits on the bushline 500m above Timaru Creek with views across to the mountainous divide between Timaru and Dingleburn.

A steep tramping track leads down to the river providing access down to Lake Hawea. Above the hut an old 4wd track runs down the ridge to the new but characterless Pakituhi Hut and another steep 1000m tramping descent to the lake. As such this makes a great weekend loop for the fit.

Upriver the Timaru River (tramping) track continues to Timaru Hut and thence the Ahuriri on old 4wd tracks - the route of the Te Araroa Trail.
