Inglewood Mine Relics June 2011

Inglewood Mine Relics June 2011

This photo shows the old boiler & winding drum at the Inglewood Gold Mine site. This quartz mine was established in 1871 & operated on into the second decade of the twentieth century. It is on the Murray Creek Goldfield in the Victoria Forest Park which is in the Reefton area. This area is well served with DOC tracks which give access to a plethora of mining relics.

The Murray Creek track from Blacks Point links with the track to Montgomerie hut making for some interesting tramping possibilities. Branch tracks also head off to Lankey Creek on SH7 and Gannons Road. The area is full of tracks not all of which are maintained. DOC has a good brochure, "Walks in the Murray Creek Goldfield" that provides historical information and shows on a map the tracks they do maintain.
