• glennj There are also hot springs in the Toaroha, Kokatahi, Mungo, Whataroa & Callary in Westland besides the ones mentioned in the article. I've been past the Cow Stream hot pool sign a couple of times when biking on the St James trail but will admit to not visiting them.

• Laura & Adrian Had a lovely time at the hot pools this weekend. Camped on terrace above and had it all to ourselves until a couple of mountain bikers arrived around 10 am. There are two more pools downstream about 50 m which are much hotter than the ones in the picture. Plastic bucket in situ to regulate the termperature. No issues with cows these days.

• Honora The other side of the creek? Hmm..I'll have to check it out if I ever go back. It's a great tramping area, alright. Such a shame DoC took out that neat wee stove from Scotties. Frank and I went into the new Mt Brown hut on Saturday, and they had a fantastic tiny little stove called "Little Cracker". It burns coal and wood and is really efficient. We stoked it with half a shovel of coal every hour or so until 11pm and in the morning, it was still warm. Something like that would be great in Scotties.

• lewshaw Went in last weekend for a peekieboo.The pool on the other side of the creek is better I feel,than the concreted one,which leaks round the drainage pipe.A shovel is handy to dig it out,if desired.NZTM co-ords E1573197 N5302811.Find the track up onto the top terrace(viewable before you cross the Edwards for the 2nd time)& drive/walk till it peters out.About 900m from the Edwards on the t/right of Cow Stream.You can drive to within 200m of the pools.Quite popular with the MTB fraternity(the main valley track)but the pools seem to be off their radar.Long may it last!Don`t forget to email DOC,Rangiora,for the combination to the gate.Worth poking your nose over Charlies Saddle to view the Waiau River.Plenty of tramping possibilities in this area,too.Scotties Hut,down 2km from Cow/Edwards confluence has 4 bunks but no fire.Plenty of camping possies abound.

• lewshaw Nothing like a hotpool,I reckon.Good on you for checkng it out.You`ve stirred us into action-we`re going in this weekend.Any tips?Have you the co-ords?It`ll be good until the great unwashed find it.
