From close to Macetown at the southern end of the Motatapu track, a choice has to be made by walkers. Go over the Big Hill and descend to Arrowtown OR cross the Arrow river on a dozen or more occasions. This is only a couple of crossings short of Arrowtown and not the deepest by any means.
