Sign at the carpark at the start of the Mt Hikurangi Trip
This sign gives some information that you need to know. The time to the hut is more like 3-4 hours rather than 4-7. The time from the summit is more like 2-2.5 hours and the fee to use the hut is $15 for the privillege of sharing it with mice.
Why DOC have provided this sign I am not quite sure as none of the walk is on DOC land.

fruitbat There is a partnership with DoC and Ngati Porou. DoC assist with track work, but the hut is administered by the Runanga.

bigpaul Arrived here late one night and slept in the station wagon in front of what i realised in the morning was the dog kennels they made a hell of a noise all night turns out they object to my snoring too.
