This picture was taken soon after hitting the river after descending from Kakapo Saddle. Kakapo hut is about 3hrs down river. This section is untracked and you hunt out the best going be it in or beside the river or in the bush. The going is not easy but it's ok. The worst of it is thru tight regrowth on the old earthquake slips and this is to be avoided where possible.

Between where this pic was taken and Kakapo hut we saw three Blue Ducks. One pair and a solo male.
