This pic shows tramping mate JH heading up through snow on the Robinson side of the saddle whilst travelling from Lake Christabel hut to Top Robinson hut. To avoid gorges on the Robinson side you have to climb higher than the saddle before descending to the river. The snow poles proved very useful. In summer I would expect this route to be snow free.
