Wharfedale Hut / Black Hill Hut loop and return
- 2 – 3 days return via same track
- Easy/medium
We were waiting for a good settled weekend to get into the hills. Alot of snow damaged branches along the way but generally pretty cruisy to the Dobson Stream/Black Hill turnoff. Didn't want to risk travel up to Black Hill with a few hrs light left so had allowed to carry on to Wharfedale Hut for the night. Mean frost overnight(-6)made for a chilly start but a beautiful sunny day.Headed out to Townshend Flats but cut across to Black Hill track at the Dobson/Townshend river junction. The climb up to Black Hill was fantastic with increasing snow toward the top. The last section was quite icy which made for some fun.Black Hill hut has always been one of my favorite huts its cosy, well maintained and has a good fire(apart from a persistent drip on the firebox all night from snow melt leaking thru a hole by the chimney!) Next morning we slid down to the Wharfedale turnoff, then down to Dobson Stream to complete the loop and out to the carpark.
