Earnslaw Hut - Mt.Earnslaw - Mt.Aspiring NP

At appx 980m set in beech forest above the Rees valley. This historic hut is on a short 50m side track to the route on the north side of Mt.Earnslaw. The bunks have hessian inlays and the roof and walls have small holes to ensure the rain can access in a downpour.

  • pmcke pmcke Yes, I last went up there sometime in the 1970s and even then everyone bipassed the hut for the more pleasing shelter of the bivy. It is good to see it is being kept as a historic hut.

  • aardvark aardvark I approached with the impression that it had been renovated as an historic hut. My last entry in the log was almost to the day nine yrs before.
