new DOC Hut in the Havelock Valley (formally privately owned). Located on the true right of the Havelock just upstream of Growler Creek, near an old airstrip. 8 bunks, water supply and toilet

Feb 2010 I phoned Malcolm Prouting and confirmed that this hut is now a DOC hut. It has been painted and new beds etc. installed and is very comfortable and warm. At the time I visited (mid Feb 2010) the fireplace was not installed but a new hearth etc. has been installed so it looked like the fireplace was next

  • phillipws The Growler hut has been done up by The South Canterbury Recreational Sportmans Club, with assistance from local businesses. The hut is in the newly formed Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Park, so now a public hut.
