Colenso Trig, the first peak north above Kawatau Base, Ruahine Ranges. An easy cut track ascends the steady ridgeline 700m to the peak for views of the Ruahines, Ruapehu and as far as Mt Taranaki. A small tarn nestles in the saddle between the two summits: a delightful day-walk with a refreshing dip in the tarn to cool off from the summer heat. 2.5km each way: 2.5-5 hours return.
