OldGoat Was part of general upgrade of huts in eastern Tararuas . Repiled , new log fire, repaint inside and out , toilet relocated as it was hanging precariously over the river.Great spot but prone to flooding....

John Saunders I was there last summer. Great spot! Came down from Tarn Ridge hut via the unmaintained spur track from bump 1313. Not too bad. Some say the spur down from the cross is also a goer. When you climb from here to the Pinnacles (heading for Arete), you arrive at a point on those Pinnacles past the steep eroding section. So cool for avoiding the vertical stuff.

bmackz Good to see the old hut is still there. I thought it was a "nil" maintenance hut but judging by the new chimney something is being done. This is my favourite bush hut in the Tararuas. Try the route directly across the Waingawa river. Takes you straight on to Waingawa, almost. It is an old track as years ago when we first did it, it had markers occasionally. 4:20 hrs from AF to Cattle Ridge Hut!
