Whakanewha Regional Park
Southern bay on Waiheke Island with many tracks and a camping area. Coastal forest of kohekohe, nikau palms, taraire, kanuka forest. New Zealand dotterels nest on the beach.

To get to Whakanewha Regional Park, take the Waiheke Island Ferry from downtown Auckland, then the Rocky Bay bus to Omiha. Follow Omiha Road and take the track down to the beach. Transport details available at Maxx.
The park offers a network of short walking tracks through coastal forest dominated by nikau. The secluded beach is a breeding location for rare New Zealand dotterels, and is suitable for swimming. Camping is available at Poukaraka Flat Campsite at the far end of the beach. Toilets, showers, and gas barbecues available. Further information is available from ARC.
