  • www.freewebs.com/hellmission/ www.freewebs.com/hellmission/ Nope all the snow poles are on Manungaorangi are there. But the other short section of opens tops are not marked. The poles even continue into the bush (like 3 or 4 more poles) which make them hard to find! The hunter I met up there did not even know this track exsisted (he was hunting on the private land and decided to climb up there for a look, he got onto some deer too on his way back down, plus he saw some on the way up-three to be precise.)

  • www.freewebs.com/hellmission/ www.freewebs.com/hellmission/ Not this stuff whole parts of the ridge are flattened! Tough going with groups of 4 or 5 trees lying on the ground!

  • pmcke pmcke Yes, the Kaimanawas have had a bit of a thrashing over the last couple of years from snow fall. Sorry to hear there is a lot of windfall on this route. However, I notice most of the snow crush is small stuff so hopefully it will rot down fairly soon. Out of interest, were there snow poles over the top of Maungaorangi? DOC put them in but I heard that some else, probably a jealous hunter, had removed them all.

  • www.freewebs.com/hellmission/ www.freewebs.com/hellmission/ I would rather get a permit, the ridge is covered in windfalls and is overgrown with markers zig-zaging all over the place. The only good piece of ridge is the open tops (nothing to claw through or over)!
