The Lees Valley is surrounded by hills and accessed by road along the Ashley Gorge. The river here cuts through the Ashley Range on a winding path. The river pre-dates the range, which rose around it. It is thus an "antecedent river." This view is from Mount Oxford, with Oxford Hill on the right.
