Jubilee Track
Ngongotaha Scenic Reserve, Rotorua
- 1 hr 30 min – 1 hr return via same track
- Easy/medium
This is a recently reopened track. The Jubilee track is over 100 years old but was little used because it crossed private land.
However the Rotorua Chapter of Forest & Bird have purchased a section of land which has allowed the lower section of this track to be re routed so that there is now full public access from Paradise Valley Rd.
A couple of hundred metres up the track it passes the last remaining Northern Rata on Mt Ngongotaha and in this area intensive pest control is being done by the Ngongotaha Bush Restoration Trust. Further up the track passes a trough native forest and several large Rimus before coming out onto Mountain Rd just below the summit of Mt Ngongotaha.
There is no vehicle access to Mountain Rd at this point but you can walk back down the road or return the same way if you wish.

In January 2011 the Trust completed a loop track that makes a 3.5km circut from the Violet Bonnington Reserve. This new track branches off the track just up from the Rata. This is an easier gradient and joins up with the Jubilee Track after 1300m. From this point one can continue to the top of the mountain or descend the Jubilee Track for a 2km loop or continue ahead to complete the 3.5kms
