The ascent to Balaclava Saddle between The Growler (Havelock) and NE Gorge Creek (McCauley). The saddle is a good alpine route from the Havelock to the McCauley. Sidling west from the saddle to Plata Col and descending Tomms Creek is another alternative, leading directly to the new McCauley Lodge in the upper McCauley.
