Start at Otira Valley Track carpark. Keep walking the track to the wood bridge. Cross over the bridge and you see the scree face to the right.
The cairned track on the screes starts from the small scree face to the left. There is a nice track leading all the way to the top of the scree face.
Keep walking to the right of the bluff (if facing to the bluff). Just keep going until you can't anymore. You will eventually come to a ledge after some screes where its right hand side is a big drop.
Go up the chute there. This is the right route up (and down on return). As you climb the chute, you would find yourself sidling slightly to the left. That's okay. Keep going till the top of the bluff. Hard part done.
There are cairns at the top of the bluff and some more further on. Keep going thru the valley with big rocks and boulders.
That's all I want to add to the other ppl's reports of Mt Philistine. Refer to other descriptions for the rest. Cheers.
