Brocken Spectre

This is a 'Brocken Spectre' from near Tararua Peaks. A curious optical effect when sunlight from behind hits water droplets below. Circular rainbow known as a Glory and shadow of photographer (at apex) is known as the Brocken Spectre. The track is evident on the left.

lewshaw Well captured! I haven`t seen the real deal,missed my shadow but got the rest on Mt Haast.

glennj I've seen a few over the years. Sometimes the images seem greatly magnified and sometimes are more life size. Sometimes a bit distorted and sometimes well proportioned.
