Smart Creek Rock Bivvy, Hohonu Range
A large rock in the head basin of Smart Creek. An historic bivvy that has been used since the 1890's. A wooden sleeping platform, table and shelving that used to be there have rotted away. A few historic relics are displayed on the man made rock wall at the front of the bivvy.
These days the biv is mainly used by chamois but humans occasionally stay there.

Getting there
|
Usually via Mt Smart either from the Hohonu Forest or Taramakau Settlement. Other options are via the Mt French or Eastern Hohonu River tracks then a mix of untracked open country and bush/scrub. |
