A large car park and sign by the Karamea Highway marks the site of this walk. The track explores an area hit hard by Cyclone Ita in April 2014. The western flanks of the nearby Radiant Range suffered up to 100% canopy destruction.
This track climbs gently through forest to a battered ridge, still showing the force of the cyclone, and largely stripped of trees. The track then drops easily into the quiet basin occupied by the lake. A viewing platform looks across the waters.
