The Fantail Trail is a short walk in Kennedys Bush, off Christchurch's Summit Road. Parking is available at the Sign of the Bellbird shelter, where toilets are also located.
The Fantail Trail is walked in combination with the Orongomai and Quarry Trails. From the shelter, take the marked track down and to the right, into forest. The Quarry Trail leads off at the second switchback. Follow this for a couple minutes to the marked start of the Fantail Trail. It sidles briefly under kānuka forest before coming to a pretty junction with the Orongomai Trail. Take the path back uphill to the shelter.
