North Col from Serpentine Range

North Col from Serpentine Range

Looking north from Peak 1550 towards North Col. Peak 1796, which anchors the northern end of the Serpentine Range, rises above North Col to the left. Nereus Peak is to the right. The flat top of rock on the skyline between the snow of Peak 1796 and North Col is the 1660m contour. Climbing up from the col it is best to pass west around this point and then descend down the ridge, picking your way through bluffs via ledges. This half kilometer from the 1660m contour to Point 1555 (main ridge line, center right of photo) is probably the toughest part of the whole Serpentine Range. January 2017
