Mount Vernon lies just west of the Rapaki Track and Witch Hill in the Christchurch Port Hills. A car park at the top of Mount Vernon Park is located at a bend on the Summit Road.
From here, an easy climb over grassland leads to the rocky summit of Mount Vernon (462m). Good views from here southwest to Sugarloaf, eastward out to Godley Head / Awaroa, and down into Lyttelton Harbour / WhakaraupÅ.
