This trail was built 2011 to honour the work of Waitakere ranger Bill Beveridge. It sets off as a smooth nature trail with local species labelled along the way. Past a viewpoint, the track descends in a zigzag before levelling off and crossing a road to a forest track that was once a section of Exhibition Drive.
The track soon passes the Monkey Drive. The Monkey Drive was part of a pipeline from Upper Nihotupu Reservoir to Western Springs, driven 1901. Beyond here, the track ends at the Mackies Rest viewpoint. Mackie was a local trader in the 1800s.
From here, you can continue on along Exhibition Drive by turning left onto the private shingle road. Exhibition Drive will take you all the way to the concrete box of the Nihotupu Filter Station at the end of Scenic Drive. However, this route does not return you to the visitor centre: head back the way you came.
