A bivouac located near the head of the Sudden Valley in Arthurs Pass National Park. This bivvy can be accessed by following the stream that flows into the Hawdon River opposite the Hawdon Valley car park shelter. This biv is sadly deteriorating. A very interesting day walk, about six or seven hours return. However, it isn't for those looking for a stroll as it can be steep and gorgy in some places. It would also be handy to have some basic route finding skills. It is definitely a walk with character. Not a place to get caught in bad weather either!

Comments

  • matthew matthew The biv is very low and dark (that's not a giant chimney: it's a small hut), but there is ample camping nearby.
