Kapiti Island

Kapiti Island

Kapiti Island is the exposed remnant of an ancient mountain range. Sheer cliffs run the length of the northwestern side. This is the view southwest from the summit, Tuteremoana (521m).

  • nzpilgrim I've been to Kapiti twice - once when I was a schoolkid, and again this year. Definitely worth the trip, though on both occasions I've been there on a cloudy day when cloud has obscured everything! The change in bird life is fantastic, and hopefully I can get back in another 10 years and hear it sounding even more like what it was before large-scale European settlement. Thanks for sharing the pic.
