The Mangatutara is probably the best going of the Raukumara crossing (everything is relative). The headwaters are good shingle / riverstone flats, and though there are a few gorged sections they are easily negotiable.

Mangatutara Hut is long gone - no sign of it (or anywhere you _could_ build a hit exists.
