TARARUAS NORTH TO SOUTH

I"m planning a North/South traverse of the Tararuas next summer and would enjoy some compatible company. This has been on my Bucket List for years and at 76 years old it's now or never. Anyone interested in joining me can get in touch via this website. I reckon it'll take about a week.

Which way are you planning to go main range or via holdsworth and valleys?

Four days in good weather. Seven is plenty for a relaxed pace and rest days.
Hi guys and thanks for the interest. Planning is very flexible at the moment. The thought is to do the main range via Aokaparangi, Maungahuka etc and finishing either at Kaitoke or Waiohine Gorge via Bull Mound and Cone Hut. Not sure where to start from yet. I always carry a GPS and PLB (activated it last year when I crashed down a bluff, knocked myself out, and got log-jammed - you might have read about it in Wilderness mag.) A mountain radio sounds like a good idea.
7 days is more than enough time, doing the main range route. I carry a small FM/AM radio for weather forecasts, get enough detail to know if a cold front is on the way, wind direction etc.
