At this time of year yes you may have some snow/ice it is important to remember that Mother Nature, Davide has a mind of her own and hence you have to plan accordingly. Personally I would be checking NZ weather from the following web site (NZ Met Service), it gives mountain reports which will help http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/index.php I would also, if tramping in the snow, isn't your thing look at an alternative trip, it sounds as though your from overseas and so it would be a shame to come all this way to gutted.
