hey i was wondering does anyone have the book Scrub grub by hans willems ta matt

I can recommend a back country cook book. It's certainly not full of light ideas though macaroni & rice get a mention. It is "Camp Cookery by D.M. Cowlin, New Zealand Forest Service 1969". It was written to assist hunters, track cutters etc living off the land & a limited range of air dropped rations which were usually cooked on open fires. The book can be regarded as an historical oddity now I suppose in light of modern lightweight dried foods, portable gas cookers, regular transportation of workers by helicopter etc. It does however still provide some useful hints & recipes. Back in the 70's at the age of 18 I received a copy of this book & several days of instruction on camp craft while working with an experienced ex deer culler before being sent off into the back country. Checked out the Fast and Light cookbook. I've run into Paul Garland in the hills. His falafel idea looked like a nice variant on the usual tomato sauce accompaniment. After doing the Te Araroa trail, he must have some good experience in meals and maybe picked up good inspirations from his fellow travellers. Met an American recently who seems to rely on porridge and ramen noodles. Don't know how he can do it! I had to register on the felt craft site to buy the cookbook.
