Pinnacle biv (aka Crinkletop biv)
An old NZFS cullers biv situated up in the tussock near the top of Mt Crinkletop. This is on the TL of the Kokatahi valley and the NE flanks of the Toaroha range. The biv has seen better days & now has a springy floor. There are no beds or mattresses. Water is from a tarn. [DOC have replaced this biv in 2011 with what was Top Crawford biv. There is now a hut 300m from where Top Crawford biv used to be]

Getting there

Usual access is via a track that leaves the TL Kokatahi track just before Boo Boo hut. It starts from a small clearing on the TL of a creek. This tops track is in surprisingly good condition despite lack of recent maintenance. The biv can be reached comfortably in 3hrs from Boo Boo or a day from the road end. Alternatively stop a night at Boo Boo hut on the way in. (about 4hrs) Pinnacle Biv can also be accessed via the Toaroha Range from a host of other huts and bivs. |
